Rakka is a dark and intense science fiction short film from filmmaker Neill Blomkamp and his independent production company Oats Studios. Hollywood Aliens legend Sigourney Weaver stars as one of the main characters, Jasper. Set in a dystopian future where humanity has been devastated by an alien invasion, the film follows the survivors of Earth’s resistance as they fight back against a powerful extraterrestrial force that has taken control of the planet.
This 20 minute short film is split into 3 parts, or chapters. Featuring brutal action, impressive visual effects, and a haunting post-apocalyptic atmosphere, Rakka delivers the scale and ambition of a feature-length sci-fi movie in just over 20 minutes. The short explores themes of survival, human resilience, and the struggle against an overwhelming alien threat.
Released online for free as part of Oats Studios’ experimental short film project, Rakka quickly became one of the most popular modern sci-fi short films, with huge appeal to fans of alien invasion movies, dystopian futures, and high-concept science fiction.
